Difficulty.

These can be challenging to strike initially and established plants can be difficult to ship successfully. Cuttings are a great option to get yourself an established plant. These can be vigorous, easy-care  growers, once established in ideal conditions.

We offer a 3 pack of cuttings to give you the best chance of success.

These are tropical plants and like warmth and humidity.

Propagation.

These can be propagated using any of the tried and true begonia propagation methods for cane Begonias.

The tip cutting can be propagated by potting into premium potting mix. Place the cutting at the edge of a pot where the soil meets the pot and water in.

The stem cutting can be propagated the same way, just ensure you have it the right way up by comparing it to the tip cutting. Alternatively you can propagate the stem cutting by laying it on the top of a propagation tray, ensuring that each node is in contact with the potting mix by pinning it down.

To ensure humidity during propagation in drier zones, cover the pot/tray with a plastic bag, using a few sticks or a trellis to keep it above the plants.

These Begonias shouldn't be overwatered, a nice long drink once a week in the warmer months, once established, if grown outdoors.

Indoors, allow to dry out between watering, they will tolerate quite dry conditions, providing they get a good soaking when they are watered. Don't allow the pot to sit in a tray that stops the soil from drying out..

Habit

Shade lovers - Bright indirect light.

These are 'cane' begonias and can grow to 2-3m in their natural habitat. Their leaves can grow to 30+cm in ideal conditions. Their flowers are pink, and are typical of most Begonia flowers.

They work well planted in amongst other tropical plants and they will lean and scramble around using the other plants for support.

Origin

Native to the tropical forests of New Guinea.
