Cornus capitata, commonly called the evergreen dogwood or the Himalayan strawberry tree, is an evergreen tree in the family of Cornaceae. C. capitata is native to the low elevation forests throughout the Himalayan mountains. It is commonly grown as an ornamental plant for its beautiful white flowers and red fruits. The fruits are a fusion of several smaller fruits and are sweet and edible, but sometimes can be bitter. Cornus capitata have glossy green leaves with a velvety underside. They can grow up to 30 to 50 feet tall at maturity.  USDA hardiness zones 8 through 9.

These Cornus capitata seeds have already been through a period of cold stratification and are ready for planting. Soak the seeds in room temperature water for 48 hours prior to planting. Sow the seeds 1/8 inch deep in a well draining potting mix. Keep the soil moist, but not soaking wet, and keep between 65°F and 80°F for best results. Seeds typically take 1 to 3 months to germinate, but can take several months longer. Even with optimal conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
