Ranked Opponents Highlight Weekend in ACC Men's Lacrosse

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) - Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Lacrosse teams face a challenging weekend schedule, with six of the seven games coming against top-20 teams, including Duke and North Carolina playing a pair of ranked Ivy League foes.

ACC Network features a doubleheader on Friday, with top-ranked Duke playing host to No. 17 Penn at 5 p.m., followed by No. 19 UNC entertaining No. 14 Princeton at 8 p.m.

All five ACC squads are ranked again this week in the latest USILA and Inside Lacrosse polls, highlighted by Duke rising to No. 1 and Virginia to No. 2, followed by Notre Dame (6), Syracuse (8 USILA/7 IL) and North Carolina (19 USILA/18 IL).

Noting ACC Men's Lacrosse
• The tough weekend slate continues the early-season trend for non-conference schedules for ACC teams. Eight of the ACC's first 19 games came against ranked opponents. 
• ACC teams boast four of the top eight scoring offenses nationally, with Duke leading Division I at 20.8 goals per game, followed by Notre Dame (T2nd, 18.7), Syracuse (7th, 16.2) and Virginia (8th, 15.7).
• Notre Dame boasts the nation's top scoring defense at 7.3 goals per game. UNC is ninth nationally at 8.7 goals allowed per game.
• 13 ACC players were named to the 2024 Tewaaraton Award Watch List, most of any conference. 
• The ACC boasts the reigning Tewaaraton Award recipient, Brennan O'Neill of Duke, who is back for his senior season. He was the sixth ACC player to earn the Tewaaraton Award and the first since Virginia's Steele Stanwick in 2011.
• The ACC also returns two more previous Tewaaraton finalists in Pat Kavanagh of ND (2021, 2023) and Connor Shellenberger of Virginia (2022, 2023).
• O'Neill also earned the USILA's 2023 Lt. Raymond J. Enners Outstanding Player of the Year Award, while, Notre Dame's Liam Entenmann claimed the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Outstanding Goalie Award.
• Reigning national champion Notre Dame was tabbed the ACC favorite in the Preseason ACC Coaches Poll. Duke, Virginia, North Carolina and Syracuse held second through fifth, respectively.
• Ten ACC players were named to Inside Lacrosse's Preseason All-America Team, including nine on the first team. Eleven more were named honorable mention.
• The 2024 ACC schedule features four games per team (two road, two home). For the first time since 2019, the ACC Tournament returns on May 3 and 5, featuring the top four teams in the league standings competing at Charlotte's American Legion Memorial Stadium.
• Announced Feb. 8, the 2024-2028 ACC Men's Lacrosse Championships will be contested at American Legion Memorial Stadium.
• Four ACC coaches rank among the top 10 in career wins among active coaches, most of any conference: Duke's John Danowski (first, 463), ND's Kevin Corrigan (second, 346), UNC's Joe Breschi (fourth, 245) and Virginia's Lars Tiffany (eighth, 195).
• Danowski owns the most wins of any active Division I head coach (463) and is third all-time.
