“Trash The Dress” or “Rock The Frock” | St. Simons Island Wedding Planner

“Trash the dress” is a style of wedding photography that shows elegant clothing in an environment which is out of place.  It is mostly shot in a style for fashion and glamour.  Sometimes, “Trash the dress” is called “Rock the frock” or fearless bridal”.

Many brides choose to have their “Trash the dress” pictures taken on a beach, but other excellent locations might include city streets, rooftops, garbage dumps, fields, dirt roads, abandoned buildings or houses, and junk yards.  The ideas are limited to your imagination.

The “Trash the dress” trend is said to have originally started in 2001 by Las Vegas wedding fashion photographer, John Michael Cooper.  Although, others say the idea of trashing or destroying a wedding dress has been used in Hollywood since 1998 when Meg Cummings of the show Sunset Beach, ran into the ocean wearing her wedding dress after her wedding was interrupted.  The “Trash the dress” style has taken off around the world since then and most photographers shoot their own unique ideas.

The bride or model will wear an elegant gown, prom dress, or her wedding dress to the photo shoot.  The dress may effectively get ruined during the photo shoot process by getting it wet, dirty, or possibly getting torn or “Trashed”.

The “Trash the dress” photo shoot is usually done as an additional shoot after the wedding.   It is the bride’s way of saying the wedding is done and I’ll never use the dress again!  Most brides see it as an alternative to storing the dress away to possibly be worn by their own daughter one day, who most likely will want to choose her own wedding gown.
