A family tradition spanning three generations has made the Sonnenhalde into what it is today.

With Tina Arpagaus The 3rd generation is already in charge of the operational management of the charming chalet hotel after gaining experience in various companies and areas of activity. Tina does this with the same hospitality, warmth and motivation as she gets from her mom,

Maria Arpagaus has been exemplified for over 35 years. And luckily for Tina’s, Maria enjoys her well-deserved numerous days off, but can still be found in the hotel almost every day, actively helping and with her cheerful manner contributes to the family atmosphere that defines the Sonnenhalde.

In addition to his car garage Georg Arpagaus especially the Sonnenhalde in the background. Of course, snow removal is also a matter for the boss and is always carried out with a happy grin.

The small and motivated Sunnahalde team takes care of the guests and tries to fulfill every wish - even the weather often seems to be slightly friendlier in the vicinity of the Sonnenhalde ...

History of the Sonnenhalde

1914 – The Sonnenhalde is built

The Sonnenhalde was built as a guesthouse in 1914 by the Schmid family (parents of the writer Kathrin Rüegg). During and after the war, it was converted into a spa facility at the Graubündner Heilstätte.

1953 – The Garni-Hotel is built

When Georges and Margret Arpagaus took over the Sonnenhalde in the first generation in 1953, it was converted into a Garni Hotel.

1984 – the 2nd generation takes over

Georg and Maria Arpagaus take over the Sonnenhalde in the second generation and immediately start major renovations. The rooms are being remodeled and the first ones are being installed! Baths in the hotel rooms.

1995/96 – the first extension

The next step is planned around 10 years after the first renovation work. The extension of the north / east wing is done in-house: A new entrance area, the “Sunnastuba”, as well as new double and family rooms are being built. The wellness area will also be created in the course of this renovation.

2001 + 2006 – the largest construction project to date

And building is going on again. The extension of the south / west wing resp. The north / west wing is the largest construction project to date. In the two years a total of 17 new rooms, resp. are completely renewed. This includes all room categories. A lift will also be installed and the kitchen will be renewed. Even the youngest guests can enjoy a new children’s playroom.

2018 – The 3rd generation sets foot in the business

The next generation joins Tina Arpagaus. After her training as a hospitality specialist and several years of experience in various companies, it was time to come home. From now on the Sonnenhalde guests will be welcomed and accommodated by mother and daughter.

2020 – renovation

In spring, the bathrooms in the family rooms will be renovated and now offer more space and relaxation with the new rain showers.

2020 – next generation change

After more than 35 years of passion and commitment to the Sonnenhalde, Maria and Georg Arpagaus are proud to hand over the business to the next generation. Tina Arpagaus takes over the management of the newly founded “Sonnenhalde Arosa AG” and follows in her mother’s big footsteps.
