Lily (officially Lilium) is such a versatile flower! Available in many colors, sizes, and shapes: these flowers can be used in any kind of floral design! We wrote a Lily Wholesale Guide to answer all your questions regarding Lily varieties, availability, and much more. Be inspired to buy the Lilies that match your business, and enjoy your customers with your Lily knowledge!

What are Popular Lily Wholesale Varieties?

Did you know that there are more than a hundred Lily varieties available? And this number is counting, because of worldwide breeding programs. Mono colored, but also bicolored and specialties with dots or stripes on the flowers are available year round. Read below which various types of Lily wholesale varieties we offer in our webshop.

LA Hybrid Lilies

LA Hybrids are crossings between Longiflorum (L) and Asiatic (A) Lilies. The strengths of these two groups are combined in a new group. Longiflorum Lilies are known for their excellent vase life and trumpet-shape, and the Asiatic Lilies are available in warm colors. Varieties that are really popular by our wholesale customers are Lily LA Brindisi (light pink), Lily LA Eyeliner (white), Lily LA Nashville (yellow), and Lily LA Caesars Palace (orange).

Oriental Lilies

Oriental Lilies are also known as “Stargazers”: this is because the flowers of many Oriental varieties look upwards. These Lilies have a strong fragrance. Famous Oriental varieties in our wholesale range are Lily OR Calvados (pink), Lily OR Signum (white), Lily OR Marlon (pink), and Lily OR Santander (white).

Roselily Lilies: Exclusive Double Oriental Lilies!

Within the Oriental family, there is a distinctive series of heavy-graded, double flowered Lilies: the Roselily Series, grown by Moerman Lilies, in Holland. Lily OR Roselily Isabell, Lily OR Roselily Natalia, and Lily OR Roselily Thalitha all have different shades of pink with little patterns or an ombre effect. Besides beauty, these flowers are also very handy to use, since they don’t carry pollen! Surprise your florist and event planner customers by putting these exclusive Lily varieties in your cooler! Visit our webshop to see the current offerings.

Longiflorum Lily Varieties

These Lily varieties have trumpet-shaped blooms, that face outward or a bit downward. They have an excellent vase life! In multiple cultures, Longiflorum Lilies are used for sympathy designs. Two popular Longiflorum Lily wholesale varieties are Lily LF Watch Up and Lily LF White Heaven.

Asiatic Lilies

Asiatic Lilies originate from Central and East Asia, and the most remarkable thing of these Lilies is that they are (most of the time) scentless. The flowers face outward or upright. A well-known Asiatic Lily Wholesale variety is Lily AZ Heartstrings (bicolor orange/red).

Martagon Lilies

Summer is the season when Martagon Lilies are blooming and available in a wide range. Martagon Lily is famous for its recurved turban shape and is often accompanied by playful speckles and freckles.

How many blooms does a Lily have on a single stem?

Lily is a bulb flower, and the bigger the bulb is, the more blooms will grow out of it. That’s why there are multiple Lily segments: light, medium, and exclusive. In the Lily wholesale business, blooms are described as “3+”, which means that each stem will have 3 flowers or more.

  • Light-graded Lilies will have 2+ blooms and are good to use in everyday bouquets.
  • Medium-graded Lilies have 3 or more blooms per stem. These are perfect Lilies to use in bouquets and centerpieces, because of the number of flowers they will look really pretty when they open up next to the other flowers.
  • Exclusive or heavy-graded Lilies are sized 4+ or 5+, and as you could imagine these have a massive amount of flowers! Perfect for large centerpieces, and also beautiful just on their own in a glass vase!

Lily Wholesale Shop Care Tips

A lovely bunch of Lilies can be enjoyed for quite a long time. Below are a number of hints for optimum care:

  • Lilies must not be placed in an area with light, avoid exposing them to drafts and bright sunlight!
  • Flower food prevents the growth of bacteria in the water, contributes to prettier blossoms and combats early yellowing of the leaves.
  • Lilies are sensitive to overly-concentrated flower food. Make sure that you do not exceed the ratio indicated on the packaging.
  • Lilies are highly sensitive to ethylene, so do not place the vase close to a fruit bowl
  • Remove pollen stains with a dry brush; a wet cloth will only worsen the stain. You could also hang the affected clothing in the sun and wind for a few hours. Another effective method is to remove Lily pollen with a piece of adhesive tape.
  • If you would like to remove the pollen from the blossoms, make sure that you leave the filaments and the pistil untouched. The blossom will look less damaged.
  • If you remove the pistil, the blossom’s fragrance will diminish.

Lily: An Ancient Flower!

Like more flowers, also the name of the Lily comes from a Greek legend. While feeding her baby Hercules, the goddess Era spilled milk on the ground. There on that spot, was growing a Lily.

The history of the flower is long; they found ancient drawings of Lilies at the time of the Minoan civilization on the island of Crete. Back in the days, Lily was also used for cosmetic and medical purposes. Crushed bulbs would cure infections and the leaves combined with honey was used as face cream.

Lilies occur naturally in the northern hemisphere. In the wild, you can find the flowers in Asia, Europe, and America.

Flowers Full of Symbolism!

The Lily is a symbol of love and happiness. The white Lily also has its symbolism and stands for peace, death, and religion. White Lily varieties are often used at funerals.

Floral Design Inspiration with Lilies

So much variety, so much choice. A bouquet of only Lilies is beautiful; the flower has enough appearance on its own. But Lilies also match very well with Alstroemeria, Carnation, and Rose. Make a nice mix with Lisianthus and greens like Asparagus for a romantic look, or go for a modern look and combine Lily with big Monstera Leafs and Calla.
