Hotel Majestic KL: Kuala Lumpur Luxury Hotel Review

A Royal Salute in Kuala Lumpur

The iconic Hotel Majestic building, built in the 1930s, is documented as a Malaysian national heritage site and is a landmark well-known for grand social functions, government receptions and the popular stay of many international delegates.

The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur features 300 luxurious rooms and suites along Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin, right opposite the old Moorish railway station and features 2 distinct wings: newly revamped Majestic Wing and the more recently expanded 15-storey Tower Wing which brings an art deco style furnishing along with the Reception, Deluxe Rooms and Suites, Contango Restaurant, 13 meeting rooms, a pillar less ballroom that can seat 1,200 people, a gymnasium and a swimming pool.

I had the pleasure of staying at the original 5-storey Majestic Wing’s Colonial Suite for a couple of days to experience the full hospitality of this signature Kuala Lumpur property.

Colonial Suite

Stepping into the Colonial suite, its unmistakable grand English charm immediately awes guests with its spacious 2 room layout which includes a separate living room, bedroom and toilet.

Echoing classic art-deco themes, the sense of nostalgia lives strong while still having state of the art modern furnishing and amenities like the flat screen TV, wifi and mini bar.

The bathroom is a lot bigger than shown in the picture, but the quaint white bathtub was what I wanted to depict in this clean lavatory that will please any germaphobe.

Another nice detail in the Colonial suite is the free access to the mini-bar (which had soft drinks, redbull and even beer), which is refilled daily. A small cost to the hotel but a big plus to guests in service.

The colonial look and furnishing sets Hotel Majestic apart from other modern hotels.

You can also opt for in-room breakfast to be served if you would rather not mingle in public at the restaurant, although variety of spread is more limited.

One more fine detail that Hotel Majestic’s Majestic Wing package has gone to great lengths to ensure an exquisite experience is the ‘butler service‘. Each guests is provided with a phone that allows you to contact a butler for any personal requests needed like shining your shoes, pressing your clothes and even getting a personal shuttle transport.

Yes, a personal shuttle chauffeur transport. Guests can request to be sent to anywhere within a 5km radius of Hotel Majestic and it doesn’t end there; With the mobile phone, you can also request to be picked up anywhere within the same radius to be sent back to the hotel! Just give reception a call with your current position and they will dispatch a driver immediately (service stops at 10.30pm).

This has been the most useful service under the Colonial suite package that I greatly appreciate from Hotel Majestic. Their fine service even calls you to check if you need transport back if you have not returned by 10.30pm. Talk about going the extra mile here.

Tower Wing Guest Rooms

The Tower wing features a more modern look, but still has themes of noveau art deco worked in to their rooms, but say the wallpaper and all are furniture are more like what today’s hotels use.

The Smoke House

A second two-storey building called The Smoke House is like a gentlemen’s club, with facilities catered for men to indulge in. Embodying the delicious decadence of the 1930’s, The Smoke House at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur features facilities and services with a Gentlemen’s Club concept in mind such a pool table, a lounge and cocktail bar, a cigar room, a private dining room and even a card room for those who want to engage in a game of bridge or cribbage.

The Barman at The Smoke House serves up an impeccable selection of vintage cocktails and a connoisseur’s collection of single malt whiskies. Smoking jackets are also provided upon request.

Guests can head downstairs to enjoy a private screening of black and white movies with comfortable reclining leather chairs.

The screening room only shows old black and white films, and is quite a popular place to bring dates for a different movie experience.

You can also make an appointment with the grooming room, which appoints professional Men’s grooming brand Truefitt & Hill to handle all male styling needs should you nee a hot towerl shave. There is also a bespoke on-call tailor providing custom-made suits, shirts and even smoking jackets

The Tea Lounge/ Orchid Conservatory

Showcasing a hanging garden and orchidscape within a glass atrium, this botanical wonder is the only one of its kind in Malaysia.

The Orchid Conservatory features a seasonal range of orchids and even one species that was specially bred for YTL group. Thousands of stunning large-petaled blooms are displayed in a re-creation of their natural habitat in this glasshouse. As the seasons progress, so do the variety of orchids on display.

Bookings in the Orchid Conservatory may be made to enjoy Afternoon Tea, intimate lunches or celebratory dinners for up to 15 persons in this gorgeous setting.

The adjacent Tea Lounge is also designed in colonial style and serves light refreshments and afternoon tea, although the Orchid Conservatory would definitely be more interesting to check out.

Contango

For your dining needs, Contango is a luxuriously designed contemporary restaurant featuring an open kitchen concept with a seating capacity for 250 people.

The cuisine at Contango is mostly international buffet style which features a wide range from Japanese, western to local Malaysian foods.

There’s a little something for everyone and Contango is one of the more renown international buffet spreads in Kuala Lumpur.

Colonial Cafe

The Colonial Café on the other hand, recreates the atmosphere of the simpler times of Malaya and features colonial style fine-dining.

Come nightfall, nostalgia fills the air at The Bar as the descendants of the legendary Maestro Alfonso Soliano, a musical family whose traditions date well back into the nation’s history, entertain with their classic renditions for guests to enjoy while dining.

The food served at Colonial cafe are Hainanese-based and uses traditional recipes created by the property owner’s mother. Thus you’ll see a mix of western influences as well as Hainanese dishes like Chicken Rice Balls.

Other Facilities

The entire hotel is a magnificent site to tour around and just enjoy the scenery. Everything you need to pamper yourself is available here, making The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur truly a premium 5 star stay. Wedding ceremonies here are also wildly popular with ballrooms and open stages available for booking.

I can verify that hospitality standards are top-notch and puts The Majestic as one of the best hotels in the world. The rustic appeal and amazing service truly sets it apart.
