Magnificent Magnolia Facts: Towering over 24 m in height, the Magnolia campbellii ‘Strybing White’ is the largest magnolia in the Garden. This special white form of the species was grown from seed purchased from Ghose and Co. in India in 1934, propagated at the Golden Gate Park Nursery, and planted here in 1940. Because of its unique white form, this tree was registered as a natural selection cultivar and thus it is the type specimen of M. campbellii ‘Strybing White’, meaning that all existing true ‘Strybing Whites’ are descendants of this tree.
