Unlike the first two Mortal Kombat games, Mortal Kombat 3 on the Game Gear sees a drastic reduction of detail in its backgrounds, to the point where they only vaguely represent the stages seen in the arcade. The Master System, which is little more than the Game Gear game running in fewer colours, has no backgrounds to speak of. On the Game Gear, the subway might not have any train tracks, but on the Master System all you get is a grey bar.
