Abstract/Description:
Minute detail distinguishes Fritillaria latifolia as an authentic study. The portrayal of a Broad-leaved Fritillary was published c. 1803 in Redouté's initial volume of Les Liliacées. To increase scientific knowledge, Redouté included alternative views of the plant to the right side. His sensitive treatment of value within the print allows the leaves and stem to appear realistic. Though the entire piece shows care and accuracy, the budding flower appears supremely genuine due to its evident texture. Redouté combines vivid color, nuanced form, and palpable texture within Fritillaria latifolia.
