«Freestyle«, the Art of improvisation. The cultivation of surprise, honesty and pleasure through instinct in the process of creation.

In most of my creations, I often choose to dig a clue ‘til its end. I usually dedicate as much time as needed to the conception and achieving of a canvas, or any other artwork, so as to reach a vision/feeling of harmony that satisfy me and may touch you.
But I also Love «freestyling», directly on a canvas, no previous sketch or ideas… You just have to stare at the empty space a few minutes, get its proportion, which we could call its structure or limits, choose the wright tools, and allow yourself maximum freedom within this frame. Turning this square into something more organic, more Lifelike. Indeed I love to work in a short time period and find quick solutions one after the other, cultivating the gesture, realizing something I couldn’t have expected before it happen physically in front of my eyes. As if my hand was faster than my brain. Or rather if both were not on a time delay. The brain is often in the futur, calculating the finished whole structure, while the hand in the past reminding the moves she’s used to do. Here and now, while Freestyling, the hand and brain are finally only bond to this particular moment, the ever flowing «Present».
Outlining the curves of this first piece above took me 8mn, it was rough instinct with a few doubt in between the faith and quick thoughts. I then just added a few shades around this rough lines to give more weight to the figure represented and clear the picture a bit. I have a video which I haven’t uploaded yet.
But I have all the process of this diptic I did a few days after. The name of this artwork is «HABRACADABRAH». It minds sounds familiar to you. This sentence is best known to be used by magician, but it actually comes from further in the past. And it means : «May these words pronounced become reality». It is the wish, or invocation of the transformation of vibration into the visible world.
It used to be written in a triangle shape, as a vortex coming from the cosmos down to the earth. From the invisible world, to the visible one.

It took me longer to do this two canvas. There were more mistakes, but more surprises. During the process, I sometimes have chosen the wrong position of some elements (such as the face of the woman in the picture above). But these errors in the composition brought some more movement in these two bodies facing still. By the use of curves, I always do my best to bring the opportunity of Movement to something/one that seems steady. I do believe that Movement is Life. Beyond the struggle between a begining and an end, there is the juxtaposition of cycles.
And I feel good looking at these two beings about to meet. I hope you too. I whish you can move to meet yourself, or someone that will make you see who you are or/and who you can be.
