Description

This hybrid sterile variety of Russian Comfrey throws out large amounts of flowers and biomass all season long and will come back each early spring with mighty vigor. It’s many uses include supplemental forage, liquid fertilizer, and compost activator. The worms and the Bumblebees will thank you. WARNING!!! It’s deep taproots make it very drought tolerant, but this also makes it very hard to kill! WARNING!!! It’s very easy to propagate by root cutting, but if you till it, you will just end up spreading it everywhere!, The root cuttings that we send out are more than enough to grow at least one new plant if not many more. Bocking 14 Comfrey will grow in basically any medium, but will thrive in the ground. Throw it in the ground, cover it with soil, give it several deep waterings for a few months months, and it’ll do the rest, FOREVER!. This is a sterile Comfrey.

Comfrey blooms from spring through fall with pink, lavender and purple flowers. It is very drought tolerant (once established), a dynamic accumulator, ornamental, a pioneer plant, very fast growing and deer resistant. USDA Hardiness Zones: 4-9.

Simply layer the wilted leaves at the bottom of the potato trench or apply them as a mulch in no-dig gardens. A liquid feed can be obtained by soaking the leaves in a small amount of water for a week, excellent for potassium demanding crops such as tomatoes. The leaves are also a very valuable addition to the compost heap. A gum obtained from the roots was at one time used in the treatment of wool before it was spun. Plants can be grown as a ground cover when planted about 1.2 meters apart each way. A dynamic accumulator gathering minerals or nutrients from the soil and storing them in a more bio-available form – used as fertilizer or to improve mulch.
