Native to Mexico, this variety of Mammillaria humboldtii is characterized by its compact, clumping growth habit, forming dense clusters of cylindrical stems, that can grow up to 3 inches in diameter. The stems are covered in numerous tubercles, each adorned with short, white spines that help to protect it from predators. 

With its small pink flowers that bloom in the spring or summer and low maintenance needs, this mammillaria cactus is sure to impress and make it perfect for even the busiest gardener. Its flowers are followed by small, red berries that are edible but not particularly tasty. 

Mammillaria humboldtii caespitosa is a hardy plant that is easy to care for in the USDA zones 9-11. It prefers full sun to partial shade for at least 4-6 hours daily to thrive and should be watered sparingly. It should be kept in a specialized cactus soil mix and fertilized once a year during the growing season in the spring with an equal mix of NPK (5-10-5). The mammillaria cactus can be propagated by removing the offsets or "pups" that grow at the base of the plant and planting them in a new pot.
