Extravagant Gladwyne mansion re-lists with $4.3M price chop

A stone mansion with ivy. — This Gladwyne mansion is back on the market with a hefty price chop.

An opulent mansion that’s only had two owners in its 75-year history has hit the market—again—to the tune of $4,199,999.

If that price tag sounds outrageous (although, it is Gladwyne we’re talking about) it may help to know that the 12,333-square-foot stone manor originally listed for $8,499,000 in 2013. That’s quite the price chop.

Some background: The 6-bedroom, 9-bath home was originally owned by E.R. Fenimore Johnson, who made bank as the founder of the Victor Talking Machine Company, a lead producer of phonographs. Everything about it down to the wallpaper is grandiose.

The gated home sits on six acres and features an indoor pool, solarium, library, and what seems like an endless amount of French doors. There’s also a lovely, ivy-strewn stone carriage house that’s now a four-car garage.

After spending some time off the market, we’ll have to wait and see if this much smaller price tag helps the immense home find a buyer.
