Jul. 2, 2014 [update]: The first flower on the Restrepia striata/brachypus caught us by surprise that we didn’t even see the bud forming. The other bud on this same plant is still unopened tho so we got a chance to snap a pic of it.

Jun. 29, 2014 [update]: Of the 3 Restrepia striata/brachypus plants we have, we were curious which one would give us flowers first. To our surprise, it’s the smallest of the 3 plants! The one we got from this eBay seller. So cool!

Jun. 2, 2014: A couple of weeks back, we were doing our nightly eBay surfing to ogle the neat orchids available all over. We somehow came upon this person selling divisions of Pleurothallid Alliance plants for $5 each with $5 shipping. For a total of $10, we thought it’s worth a shot to add a little diversity in where we get our plants.

We were a little disappointed when after a week, we still had not received our purchase. Contacting the seller, he figured the first package may have been lost in the mail and offered to send us another division. We took him up on his offer. Along with our original purchase, he sent us an extra freebie! That’s awesome customer service! His eBay id is spiro89.

Trichosalpinx chamaelepanthes
Trichosalpinx chamaelepanthes. This was the plant we originally bought. Larry took this picture with his finger for size reference.

Trichosalpinx chamaelepanthes flowers internet picture(picture from Internet) We actually didn’t buy this plant for its flowers. We bought it because of its wacky name! Trichosalpinx chamaelepanthes sounds so hardcore!

Restrepia striata "yellow"
Restrepia striata (yellow) was the freebie plant. So geeked to see it very healthy and established.

(picture from Internet) Restrepia striata is actually a synonym for Restrepia brachypus which looks cool!

Orchid count: #225, 226
