Images of a giraffe nuzzling a terminally ill zoo worker in Rotterdam have spread across the globe.

According to The Independent, the 54-year-old had spent most of his adult life cleaning the animal's enclosures and asked to be wheeled to the giraffe enclosure at the Rotterdam Zoo to say goodbye.

The wish was granted by Dutch charity The Ambulance Wish Foundation. And the reunion was a real tear jerker.

"These animals recognized him, and felt that (things aren't) going well with him,' Kees Veldboer, the founder of the AWF told Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad." (It was) a very special moment. You saw him beaming."
