Prunus sargentii is an ornamental tree that is best known for its beautiful pink flowers that bloom in the springtime. It’s also popular for its enticing summer foliage, attractive fall color, and reddish bark.

Seeing as its part of the cherry family, Prunus sargentii has edible fruit. Its berries are a dark purplish black color with large pits in the center. They grow in the summer after the flowers have all fallen off, and can be picked once they’ve matured.

Prunus sargentii fruit can be eaten like many berries and cherries. You can pit them and use them in pies, sauces, syrups and more!
