His body had to be taken to the funeral parlour in a reinforced king-size bed on the back of a flatbed lorry.

Once certified by the Guinness Book of Records as the world's heaviest man in 2006 when he weighed 88 stone (560kg), a diet brought Mr Uribe's weight down to 57 stone (394kg), but a crane was still needed to take him to hospital.

In addition to a cardiac condition, Mr Uribe, known as "Meme" to his friends, was also believed to have suffered from liver problems.

His 2008 wedding to Claudia Solis was one of the few times he left his home in recent years, being taken to the ceremony by crane as he was unable to walk.

As a teenager Mr Uribe weighed 18 stone (115kg) and he continued to pile on the pounds.
