Kiss, Toes and Engine House

Our eldest daughter has been with us for the day and we went to the beach for a walk along the sands at low tide. It was warm and windy and absolutely wonderful, topped off with an ice-cream from the Chapel Porth Cafe.

A Birthday, St Piran’s Parade and Chapel Porth

Daughter No 1 is with us for her birthday which is lovely. We have had a splendid day enjoying first the Redruth St Piran’s parade,

then a trip to Chapel Porth for a walk up to Wheal Coates and lunch at the Beach Cafe (their Croque Monsieurs are truly scrumptious!) The wind was so wild with gusts of 30-40mph that I abandoned the cliff top walk and left the other two to it! They did return! One of her siblings and family had rung to sing Happy Birthday just as they reached Wheal Coates.

They did come back over the hill

Then we  called in at Kresen Kernow to show M the wonderful new/old building

and have just finished our Birthday dinner of Confit Duck with Blackberry sauce followed by Chocolate Torte. Another sibling and family rang while we were cooking dinner. Happiness all round!

Christmas Day Walk, Christmas Swimmers and Love

It has been a family tradition to go for a walk on the beach on Christmas Day, whatever the weather, since we first came to live in Cornwall when I was six years old. Yesterday, the sun shone and it was glorious! We were almost alone, with just a few dog walkers, walking on Porthtowan beach and heading, at the turn of the tide, towards Wheal Coates up on the cliffs.

As we turned to return, only the sound of the waves and the odd excited dog barking to be heard, we were astounded to see a hundred or more people had arrived while we were strolling. Then, all the more astonished to see them all race into the winter sea!

The following video is a bit shaky – I was cold!

Choose love.

Singing, A Bird and A Horse at Sunset

After singing in the hall for Cornwall this morning we did half an hour busking outside  and enjoyed the apricity (another lovely word recently learned and meaning the warmth of the sun in winter.) The sculpture in the background is The Naked Drummer, a bronze sculpture by Tim Shaw which was unveiled in 2011 by Queen drummer Roger Taylor, who was educated at Truro School.

Which Bird?

A sunset walk on the cliff tops above Wheal Coates this evening brought beautiful golden light and a horse and rider galloping by.

Mothers’ Day, Treats and Love

Our lovely kids were all in touch today with cards, calls, chocolates and photographs and an extra rather special gift:   Refuge_parcels_-_mother_s_parcel. Do click on the link to see the important work being done for women less fortunate than those in my family.

It has been another beautiful day so we popped down to Chapel Porth before the crowds! Join our walk at low tide on an almost empty beach.

I send my love to all my lovely readers, be you Mothers or not. I hope you have all had a good day.
