Masterful Strings: Irina Muresanu & Dana Ciocarlie

College of Arts and Humanities | School of Music Tuesday, February 27, 2024 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, Gildenhorn Recital Hall

ABOUT THE EVENT

Irina Muresanu, violin
Dana Ciocarlie, piano

Violinist Irina Muresanu and pianist Dana Ciocârlie present an exciting program of Romanian composers named “Infinite Strings”. The title represents an homage to two of Romania’s greatest artists: violinist and composer George Enescu and sculptor Constantin Brâncusi.

The duo's musical relationship began when they both independently won the Pro Musicis International Award (Ms. Muresanu won the final round in New York City, while Ms. Ciocârlie the one in Paris). They have toured internationally as a duo and performed on prestigious stages such as New York City's Carnegie Hall, Boston's Jordan Hall and Longy School of Music, Bucharest's Romanian Radio Hall, the Hong Kong Performing Arts Center in Hong Kong, and the Salle Cortot in Paris.

Each performer is an acclaimed soloist in their own right, and together they bring a fresh and powerful energy to the standard repertoire. Their special artistic pursuit is to introduce audiences to music written by Romanian composers including and beyond George Enescu. As artists of the Pro Musicis Foundation, whose mission over the past 50-plus years has been to bring music to underprivileged audiences, they have performed as a duo and individually in dozens of community concerts in hospitals, hospices, centers for children with disabilities and in prisons.
