Green Coral Maple. Often described as the counterpart to the Coral Bark Maple, Acer palmatum ‘Aoyagi’ is a beautiful, yet understated, Japanese Maple cultivar. The leaves emerge a fresh lime green in the spring, changing to a light green for the summer months and then a lovely butter yellow in the autumn. Even in winter, the fresh green is evident in the bark and in the right spot, this delicate tree seems almost to glow. Site in around half a day of sun to get the best out of this tree and if possible, plant in front of a dark background to truly appreciate its colouring. It makes a pretty, small tree with an upright habit and will be perfectly happy in the ground or in a container.
