M. arvensis ‘Hillary’s Sweet Lemon’ (86)

c86.1

Source: Old Hall Plants via Laurel Farm Herbs. 2002. Originally from Richter of Canada

Ref: 86

Glaucous, comparatively short, grey-green leaves. Inflorescences mixed whorls and terminal spike. Flowers pale lavender.

Norfolk herbs lists this variety as having been named after Hillary Clinton and offer the latinate name Mentha dulcia citreus. Schoolgirl Latin might suggest an alternative: Mentha dulcia citrea Hillariae. It was apparently developed by Richter of Canada from apple and lime mint and they confirm it was named after Hillary Clinton since it is an ‘aggressive female mint’. It is protected by US patent and the propagation rights in Canada are held exclusively by Richter.
