The name of Pamukkale comes from white cotton-like stones that occurs during the formation of sediments of limy hot water. With this feature, Pamukkale is a famous tourist attraction in the world. In addition to this feature, Pamukkale is home to the remains of Hierapolis, an important city in the first century, and this is also a reason why it is important in the world. In Pamukkale, besides the remains of this ancient city, the Şaron cave, where some lethal gases spread, is alo world famous. Pamukkale is a hill formed by the lime of the spring waters. It is also Turkey’s most well-known natural wonder.

The rocks called travertine is a rock type which take shapes as a result of eventual collapse depending on various causes and environments, and chemical reactions . The geologic events that have caused the thermal source of Pamukkale, affected a large area. In this region there are 17 hot water areas varying in temperature from 35 to 100 degrees.

Located about 20 kilometers from Denizli, Pamukkale is favorite of local and foreign tourists with its travertines and hot springs. For this reason, the transportation network has improved considerably. Pamukkale can be visited by highway transportation from each cities. You will come to Pamukkale with your own vehicle; you must connect to the nearest highway from the cities you are in and follow the directions. You should move on by following the road of Izmit after Istanbul, without ever deviating from the Adapazarı — Bilecik road, by continuing on Eskişehir route. You will pass from Bursa — Kutahya direction to Afyon and then to Denizli. You can reach the center of Denizli city after a road of approximately 9 hours. Have a nice journey!
