- Deciduous shrub, 4-8 ft (1.2-2.5 m), arching, lanky, suckers. Leaves alternate, simple, 2.5-10 cm long, about half as long, ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, double serrate, bright green. Flowers double, almost golden yellow, nearly spherical, 2.5-5 cm diam.
- Hardy to USDA Zone 4 'Pleniflora' seems to be the most common cultivar. The following is from the The Garden Plants of China, Peter Valder (1999, p.296): "The double form, known in the West as 'Pleniflora', is seen in almost all Chinese gardens and has obviously been in cultivation for a long time. The single form is also occasionally cultivated there but is probably a modern introduction."
