SPRINGDALE, Utah — Officials at Zion National Park announced Tuesday that Angels Landing will reopen on Wednesday.

Angels Landing

The trail was closed over the weekend due to damage to the chain section of the trail. At the time, park officials announced the trail would be closed until further notice.

Park officials said work is being completed on reattaching a rock anchor that supports the trailing chain. Additionally, park officials will assess the rest of the trail, clean graffiti, and remove any trash.

Angels Landing is a 5.4-mile roundtrip hike. Hikers will gain nearly 1,500 feet in elevation.

Before you go

Park officials remind those planning to visit Angels Landing to:

  • bring your permit; if you don’t have a permit, you will not be allowed to hike;
  • take care of your feet, the Park recommends hikers to wear boots with good ankle support and traction, that are already broken-in;
  • check the weather forecast; even with a permit, you may not be able to hike if there is bad weather in the area;
  • take a shuttle to the trailhead; for a few weeks in the winter and spring when the shuttle isn’t in use, visitors will need to park on the pavement and walk back to the trail.

At the trailhead

Once visitors get to the trailhead, park officials say there are three important things to remember before starting a hike:

  • fill a water bottle,
  • go before you go, and
  • leave no trace.
