Australian preschool broadcaster ABC Kids has launched a new iPad app with games, featuring the channel’s most popular shows—Play School, Giggle and Hoot, and Bananas in Pyjamas.

Developed by the creators of Play School Art Maker, Play School Play Time and ABC Kids iview (a VOD app which launched in March), the ABC Kids Play app for children two to six encourages investigative, creative and open-ended play.

Key features of the app include the village (main menu), games (making craft animals, exploration with Hoot and Hootabelle, playing musical cushions with B1 and B2), a grown-ups section (how to use the app, co-play suggestions, customer service) and offline activities (PDF guides for offline activities).

Additionally, Hoot and Hootabelle and Play School presenters Zindzi Okenyo and Teo Gebert provide kids with audio guidance to help them navigate the app, so they don’t have to rely on their parent or caregiver.

The ABC Kids Play iOS app is free to download from the Australian App Store and will soon be available for Android devices. There is no in-app advertising and the app does not require a wifi connection to play once it’s been downloaded.
