NOVEMBER 2022 Great Music on Montana PBS BEGINS FRIDAY, 11/4 8PM 4 P. 3 Celtic Woman: Postcards from Ireland MONDAY, NOVEMBER 28 7PM 4 P. 2

 Celtic Woman: Postcards from Ireland

MONDAY, 11/28 7PM Also 12/4 7pm

Breaking from the usual format of their TV specials, Celtic Woman brings an innovative, fresh and vibrant approach to their performances, taking viewers on a musical journey through some of the most stunning land and seascapes across Ireland.

Using the forests, lakes and beaches as their stage and the mountains and valleys as their backdrop, the soft light from dramatic skyscapes becomes their only source of illumination. Blending their performances into these sometimes wild, natural places, their costumes in lush palettes become the perfect visual match for these postcard settings.

Celtic Woman: Postcards from Ireland introduces viewers to Sean, an American now living in Ireland as he writes a postcard to his family back home. “You were right about Ireland,” he writes. “There’s music everywhere here. It’s in the trees, it’s in the rivers, in the wind and rain. It rolls in on Atlantic waves.”

In the spring of 2020 small Montana towns like Philipsburg dreaded the arrival of Covid-19. The aftermath was to prove more profound than the virus itself.

The Best Last Place

THURSDAY 11/3 7PM Also 11/6 10am; 1/7 2am

This new work from Director Jim Jenner captures the irony of a frightening virus-spawned economic shutdown being followed by unprecedented waves of pandemic and political “refugees” into Montana. Interviews include dozens of people who experienced the changes wrought when Covid closures ultimately added rocket fuel to remote digital work access and inbound migration to rural communities. Unprecedented real estate price spikes, once-ina-century building booms, evaporating workforce housing and busier highways are new realities in the Rockies. How Montana communities deal with these challenges shows that saving our legendary “Last Best” culture is now very much a work in progress.

MT Montana PBS Reports: Impact

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 17 7PM Also 11/20 10am; 11/21 2am

PBS is committed to strong News/Public Affairs reporting for our viewers. We are proud to launch this new series that offers in-depth stories on issues important to Montanans. In this episode, a century ago, boarding schools for

American children were part of a federal policy to eliminate indige nous languages and cultural practices. As Congress weighs legislation aimed at righting some of those wrongs, we’ll look into what truth, justice, and heal ing might look like. We’ll also hear from today’s cultural educators, who are working hard to ensure these vibrant, once-forbidden cultures and languages flourish in future generations. Also, owning a home these days feels out of reach for many Montanans, especially first time buyers. Montana PBS explores the short-term and long-term factors that have contributed to the housing market’s supply and demand conundrum.

There are not many For Sale signs to be seen in the highly competitive Missoula housing market.

This niche hobby has produced long-lasting friendships between radio enthu siasts around the globe, and has been a pastime of choice for much of their lives.

Dennis Lane, a Montana ham based in the Bitterroot Valley, operates his radio transceiver during the filming of HAM.
