Growing Innovations 2016

Welcome once again to Kernock Park Plants “Growing Innovations” 2016 6JG RTQFWEVKQP QH VJG ECVCNQIWG KU CNYC[U C DKV QH C YCVGTUJGF OQOGPV 6JG OQPVJU NGCFKPI WR VQ KV DGKPI CNN CDQWV ƒ PCNKUKPI new introductions, organising production, placing forward orders for the following season, gathering the information. Now the catalogue is printed, it is all about telling you, the customer what we are bringing to the market and hopefully enticing you with our wonderful plants and service. Customer Satisfaction - We undertook a customer satisfaction survey at the start of the year. Thank you once again for those who took the time to respond. It is much appreciated. The survey was designed to check what things are important to our customers and how we performed on those parameteres. Unsurprisingly, requirements such as: • Consistent product quality • Value for money • Timely, appropriate delivery ..all came high on your wish lists. We were really pleased to hear that nearly 95% of respondents felt we delivered on all of these factors and nearly three quarters of you felt we were “very good, or “excellent” in these priority areas. Of course, there were a plethora of other factors that our customers felt were important and we were equally pleased to learn that we scored exceptionally with regards to information respone rate, clarity and accuracy of information provided, diversity of range and general stability. Of course we realise that customer surveys are not just about giving ourselves a pat on the back, but also to sort out any niggles and suggested improvements that you share with us. We are constantly looking to improve and have been addressing some of those improvemetns areas already and will continue to do so in the coming months. We will Papaver ‘Plum Pudding’ report back to you with any relevant changes. An industry of change - It seems hard to keep up with the movers and shakers in our industry at the moment. So many mergers, consolidations, acquisition both nationally and internationally. It is hard to keep up! We cannot hope to affect these changes and nor do we really want to. As I see it, they are a natural and potentially healthy process that the industry is undergoing in order to be ready for the coming years. What we do have to do however, is to understand what our customers want, realise where we are now, where we are going in the future and move with the times as nimbly as we are able.

ϐ Ǧ ϐ ǡ

Part of this process of understanding where KPP is has been for me to embark on C 0WHƒ GNF (CTOKPI 5EJQNCTUJKR 0WHƒ GNF KU PQV UQ YGNN MPQYP KP JQTVKEWNVWTG CU KV is in agricultural circles, but for those that don’t know, it is a brilliant opportunity for people who work within agriculture and associated industries the chance to travel, expand their knowledge and understanding by providing support and some funding to go and travel to countries and visit people around the world, studying a topic of choice. I am kindly sponsored by Studley College Trust and my project is called “Intensive Horticulture – Man vs Machine” which has a central focus on technological advancements in our industry. I feel this is just one key factor that will continue to impact all of us in the coming years. So, I wanted to try and understand who does what, why and where the future is with regards to current and new technology. I was fortunate to meet some amazing people in a diverse range of over 70 organisations over the past 18 months whilst travelling to Australia, Europe, Japan, Israel, USA and Canada. I am writing the report now, so whoever would like to read it can do so very soon.

Please do have a good look through our catalogue. There is heaps of information for both new and existing customers on pages at the front, back and within the pull-out cover of the brochure. Price information is on the order form. All this and lots more besides is on our constantly updated website www.kernock.co.uk Thank you once again and we look forward to 2016 with great optimism. We hope we can continue to support each of you in making 2016 successful for you. Remember, it is The Queens 90th Birthday in 2016, so start thinking about those celebratory planting schemes, as well as carpet bedding and InstaPlant® displays!

It is now easier to find plants by their planting enviroment with our easy to use plant finder. Please see page 104 for more information.

NEW Cultural notes We have been working hard this year to put together full cultural notes for all of our varieties. They are now available via our website including a printable cultural information sheet which contains all of the growing information displayed on our website. These guides are intended to make your growing experiences with our products easier and help you with some extra information for any new varieties.

Weekly Email Updates and Social Media Stay up to date with the latest product information and trends with our weekly email updates and surplus list. You can also follow us on Twitter (@kernock) and like us on Facebook (www. facebook.com/kernockparkplants) to get updates, information and advice about our latest products, services, and industry news too.

The Surplus List The surplus list is available on our website www.kernock.co.uk and is updated constantly, so you can see exactly what we have available for immediate delivery. Delivery Services We deliver our products all over the United Kingdom and Ireland, as well as into mainland Europe. Delivery of our trays is often by Danish (CC) trolleys on freight lorries or by pallet. We can also deliver using our unique box method, using environmentally friendly recycled cardboard. In this case, we use a business courier service.

Cash and Carry Open between March and August between 9am - 4pm Mon-Fri. This is an ideal opportunity to pick from some whole and many part trays from production excess. The cash and carry works like a pick and mix, where you fill trays with your own selection of plugs from what is available in the sale bay. It’s best to call ahead first to let us know you’re planning to visit. We are unable to generate invoices after 4pm so please arrive in plenty of time. This service only available to bona fide growers and there is a minimum sale of £100 plus VAT per visit.

Labels Labels are available for all catalogue varieties and are produced in midi and extra large sizes. The order form states M or XL to show the size available for each variety. Labels are delivered with your plant delivery unless a specific label order is received.

New plants for 2016 For 2016 we are introducing around 70 exciting new plants to our catalogue, all of which have been through rigorous stages of trialling both in the UK and at other locations around the globe, representing a whole spectrum of plants from hardy and herbaceous perennials, patio plants and grasses including some new editions to existing favourites from previous years. This exciting new list includes Fuchsia ‘Shadowdancers’®, Petunias ‘Chocolina’, ‘Nerolina’ and ‘Flamingo’ along with a new series of Lobelia and two new colour additions to the existing Buddleja ‘Buzz’ assortment. This year we are also adding to the very successful ‘Wish’ series of Salvias including an exciting multi award winner, Salvia ‘Love & Wishes’ which is on the cover of this year’s catalogue. Salvia ‘Love & Wishes’ is the third variety in the ‘Wish’ collection of Salvia and has so far won several awards for ‘Best in Show’ and ‘Best in Category’ in the New Plant Awards at the HTA National Plant Show in June, along with taking third place at RHS Chelsea for ‘Plant of the Year’. Bred by Australian plantsman John Fisher, it has near black buds which produce a show of large rich claret flowers that cleanly fall away when they die off to reveal attractive burgundy calyces. Like the other ‘Wish’ Salvias, it flowers continuously from early summer until autumn frost and makes a well-branched bushy plant with many stems, each of which carries a large number of flowers held over dark glossy foliage. Hardy to -2 Celsius, Salvia ‘Love & Wishes’ is free flowering over a long season as well as being highly attractive to bees and beneficial insects, making this an all-round winner for both border and container. Also making a catalogue debut in 2016 are the first two Monardas in the Pardon My® series. They offer nicely compact, very floriferous and mildew resistant plants with distinctive, full – sized Magenta and sugar plum purple flowers and complemented by the healthy dark green foliage. We also have one of the best Nepeta we have ever seen, smothered in sky blue flowers over silvery green mounds of foliage. We are also particularly fond of the new Campanula rotundifolia ‘White Gem’ and Campanula ‘Iridescent Bells’, ‘White Gem’ has a profusion of beautiful dainty bell shaped white flowers that dance in sprays on upright delicate stems, ‘Iridescent Bells’ is a hardy plant with aubergine coloured buds that spring open to reveal a mass of iridescent pale pink flowers that resemble fairy hats. We hope you enjoy these and the many other new plants included in this years catalogue. For detailed product information, descriptions and cultural notes please see our website: www.kernock.co.uk

The Sunsatia® series are a unique range of Nemesia as they are the first series with such a range of vibrant colours to be produced from cuttings rather than seed. This means that they will not produce seeds as readily as some of the more traditional seed grown varieties, leading to plants with far greater vigour so you can enjoy the wonderful colours right through summer. The upright varieties have the best scent - ideal for tubs. The semi-trailing types are excellent for baskets as well as pots, tubs and raised beds.

Displays & Carpet Bedding Your ideas are designed, planted and grown on at the nursery and delivered ready for you to install. On delivery, the pre-rooted tiles of plants are simply slid out of their trays onto a pre-prepared bed, transforming the bed into a colourful work of art within hours. The displays can also be used for exhibitions as they are delivered in mobile units. The price of an InstaPlant® carpet bed is approx. £135/m2 plus a £200 design fee.

....You imagine it, we design it, plant it, deliver it, you enjoy it! We also design and produce 3D InstaPlant® displays to order. 3D displays of up to 4 metres high can be produced. Each display is fabricated in steel with an internal irrigation system and is planted-up, grown on and delivered to site.

This art form has previously been limited to specialists, but InstaPlant® gives people who would not normally have attempted to create a decorative bed, the chance to have one produced and delivered to be planted up with ease. All that we require is a drawing or photo to base the design on. We can also provide individual plants for anyone who prefers to plant the display up in the traditional manner. Carpet Bedding is now available to everyone!

For carpet bedding enquiries please contact Chris Harnett, request the InstaPlant brochure or visit:
