When Tabu spoke about ‘manipulations’ in Bollywood, revealed she was recast in Aamir Khan film: ‘I have faced disappointment, humiliation’

Tabu has been around in the film industry for three decades now and she has seen her share of rejections. Tabu has always been regarded as one of the most versatile actors in the movies but in 2001, after working in films like Astitva, Virasat, Maachis, and many other acclaimed films, Tabu was replaced from Aamir Khan’s 1999 film Mann. The film eventually starred Manisha Koirala.

Tabu, in a 2001 interview with Filmfare, was asked why Mann “slipped out her grasp”. The actor revealed that she had done a photo-shoot with Aamir for the film but was never informed what happened after that. “See I would have loved to do a film with Aamir. We even did a photo-shoot together for Mann. I’m clueless about what happened after that, I don’t know what goes on behind the scenes.”

Tabu said she had been “at the receiving end far too often” and added, “Manipulations are a a part of this game. It happens to every heroine.” Not just Mann, Tabu was apparently also supposed to work with Govinda in Kunwara, which eventually starred Urmila Matondkar. She did not speak much about the Govinda film but said that she had been through enough “disappointment and humiliation.”

She said, “Also, it would have been great fun to do Kunwara with Chi Chi. I’ve gone through my share of disappointment and humiliation. But I hold no grudge, they get you nowhere.”

Aamir Khan and Tabu never worked together aside from Fanaa, where Tabu had a small cameo. Govinda and Tabu, however, didn’t work opposite each other after this.

Tabu was recently seen in Ajay Devgn starrer Bholaa. Her upcoming films include Vishal Bhardwaj’s Khufiya and Rhea Kapoor produced The Crew.
