DIAGNOSTIC DESCRIPTION
Perennial herb 0.04–0.1 m long, prostrate, forming mats or sometimes buried and rhizome-like, rooting along stem, with stems spreading, branching irregularly. Stems narrowly 2-lined, eglandular; internodes 2–7 mm, shorter than to exceeding leaves. Leaves very shortly petiolate; lamina 2–6 × 0.8–2 mm, oblong to elliptic or oblanceolate, chartaceous, with epidermis concolorous, undulate-papillose to almost smooth; apex obtuse to apiculate or acute, margin slightly revolute to plane, base rounded to cuneate; venation: 1–2 pairs of main lateral branches from lower ¼ to ½ of midrib, unbranched; laminar glands pale, punctiform, few and occasionally 1–3 black, subapical; marginal glands black, irregular. Inflorescence 1-flowered, sometimes with flowering branches from lower nodes; pedicels 1–4 mm; bracts foliar. Flowers c. 10–12 mm in diam.; buds ellipsoid, acute. Sepals 4(5), subequal, free, 3–4 × 1–1.3 mm, oblong to elliptic, acute, subentire or distally glandular-denticulate to -fimbriate; veins 3, unbranched; laminar glands pale, linear and punctiform and black, c. 2–5, punctiform to striiform; marginal glands black, spaced, proximally immersed or sessile, distally on cilia to fimbriae. Petals 4(5), red-veined, 5–7 × 3 mm, elliptic, rounded to subobtuse; laminar glands pale, striiform and punctiform and black, few, punctiform; marginal glands black, becoming denser distally. Stamens c. 20, longest 3.5–4 mm, 0.5 × petals. Ovary c. 2 × 1 mm, ovoid; styles 3, c. 3 mm, 1.5 × ovary. Capsule c. 3–4 × 2 mm, ovoid; valves with (3?)5 longitudinal vittae. Seeds medium brown, c. 1 mm; testa regularly foveolate.
