This holiday season, visit The Broad! Take your friends and family to experience the new immersive and multi-sensory special exhibition William Kentridge: In Praise of Shadows. Surveying 35 years of the celebrated South African artist’s practice, the show features over 130 works and includes all 18 works from the Broad collection, with substantial loans from across the United States and South Africa.
Kentridge grew up in Apartheid-era Johannesburg and has continued to live in the city throughout his life. Curated by Ed Schad, In Praise of Shadows is organized both thematically and chronologically throughout The Broad’s first-floor galleries.
Film, sculpture, theater, opera, and installation provide opportunities to immerse yourself in Kentridge’s artistic world, as do interactive works such as his 30-minute five-channel video installation, The Refusal of Time (2012), and early pieces rarely or never seen in the United States.
