The exact construction date of this chapel is uncertain. But because of it’s location it is quite clear how important this place was in history.
Fishermen came here to ask for protection before they would sail along. Nowadays locals come here to light a candle and you can even get married here. This national monument therefor still has it’s use in a good way.
The cliff separates 2 beaches:
Praia Nova is one of the lesser-known beaches in the Armacao de Pera region. These two beaches are actually connected by a tunnel cut through the rock (on which the chapel stands). At high tide it is therefore not passable. But it is certainly worth the walk at low tide.
It's one of my favourite spots in the Algarve.
The views, the colors (it doesn't matter in which season of the year you will visit this area, the colors are amazing) tranquility and the peace of the area are priceless.
