In the very heart of Belgrade, which as the capital itself, represents the heart of a country, is the famous Balkan Hotel. Being on the corner of Terazije and Prizrenska streets, it is part of the lively city center, but according to longevity, it is a link between modernity and tradition. Its history goes back so far that it is not possible to determine the exact year of construction of the building itself. It is assumed that at the time when the fountain on Terazije was built, around 1860, the famous Belgrade architect Andrija Vuković erected this “monument” of heritage and culture. In the meantime, it became the endowment of the merchant brothers, Samuil and Golub Janić, because Golub’s wife bequeathed it to the Serbian Royal Academy after his death. It has gone through many restorations and owners, but despite that, it has retained the unique spirit of the era in which it was created, which is why all the Serbian and foreign cultural elite have always been happy to return to it.
