    This species grows in Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Gomera, El hierro, and la palma. During the summer dormancy, it appears as a shrub or bush. Leaves have idioblasts.

    Hybrids with sedifolium (x casanovense), simsii (x hybridum), and smithii (x rowleyi) exist.
