Description

This is an auction for three (3) cuttings of Di Tre Volte Nero.  All three cuttings are approximately 7" long and taken fresh from our potted, Di Tre Volte Nero fig tree.  The cuttings will be wrapped and shipped to you FREE via USPS First Class Mail.  The cuttings in the picture are the cuttings that you will receive.  All pictures are from our own Di Tre Volte Nero fig tree.

Di Tre Volte Nero produces 3 crops of small round(ish) dark colored fruit that transitions from dark brown to dark burgundy/purple, through to a short yellow/green neck.  Di Tre Volte Nero is reported to have a very early first (breba) crop.  Very early here in USDA Zone 7b would be anytime in June.  Our tree is young and the first crop did not show, so we'll know next season.  The second (main) crop was abundant for a young tree, and the fruit was delicious.  Thin skin.  Strawberry red pulp, solid with no cavity, pleasing texture and a nice seed crunch.  Very sweet, light figgy flavor with hints of berries.  Small, tight eye.

Di Tre Volte Nero is reported to produce a 3rd distinct (cimaruoli) crop and there are different accounts of productivity from different regions of the world.  Because our tree is young we did not experience a full 3rd crop.  We can report that a set of fig embryoes almost as equal as the main crop, developed later than most varieties.  They never ripened but in all likelihood age of the tree is the major factor.  With that in mind, this tree would do wonderful in a warmer climate.  We are still trialing Di Tre Volte Nero and collected it because of it's ability to produce a third crop, thereby making it's first crop extremely early.  Any variety that pushes a very early first crop in our zone is a winner.  Any other crop after that is a bonus!
