Investigation Discovery announces Nick and Aaron Carter docuseries Fallen Idols: Watch the trailer

The four-part miniseries from the network behind "Quiet on Set" features interviews with three women who previously accused Nick Carter of sexual assault.

Following the popularity of Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, Investigation Discovery announced its next bombshell project that will chronicle the plight of troubled child stars: Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter.

The four-part docuseries will analyze how allegations of sexual assault against Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, which he has strongly denied, created a rift between him and his younger pop star brother, Aaron Carter, who supported Nick’s accusers before he died from accidental drowning in 2022 at age 34.

Melissa Schuman, Shannon “Shay” Ruth, and Ashley Repp will all appear in Fallen Idols to discuss their allegations against Nick and the subsequent backlash they faced after making their claims public. Additionally, Nick's ex-girlfriend Kaya Jones (of Pussycat Dolls fame) and Aaron's ex-fiancé Melanie Martin will also appear in the documentary, as well as an undisclosed “member of the Carter family.”

“Nick looks like a perfect, pretty Ken doll. But I know how evil he can be,” Jones says in the trailer. “The truth is all gonna come out.”

“To be honest, I’m scared of him,” Schuman says at the tearful conclusion of the trailer.

In 2017, Schuman, a member of the girl group Dream who starred in The Hollow with Nick and recorded the song "There for Me" with him in 2004, accused him of sexually assaulting her in the early 2000s, though he ultimately was not initially charged due to the statute of limitations expiring.

In 2022, Shannon "Shay" Ruth filed a lawsuit against Nick, accusing the singer of raping her after a 2001 concert. Ruth’s lawsuit also included other sexual assault accusations against the musician from three additional anonymous plaintiffs. Four months after Ruth's filing, Schuman filed her own lawsuit under a 2022 California law that widened the statute of limitations on sexual assault cases.

Nick has denied all allegations against him. “Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual,” Carter said in a statement at the time. “We went on to record a song and perform together, and I was always respectful and supportive of Melissa both personally and professionally.” Additionally, his lawyer said, "This claim about an incident that supposedly took place more than 20 years ago is not only legally meritless but also entirely untrue” about Ruth’s accusation.

Nick also filed a countersuit against Ruth and Schuman in 2023, which alleged the women wanted to "defame and vilify Carter and otherwise ruin his reputation for the purposes of garnering attention and fame and/or extorting money from” him.

Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter will air on Monday, May 27, and Tuesday, May 28, from 9-11 p.m. ET/PT on ID and stream on Max. Watch the full trailer above.
