A little history.

The town of Svetoi Vlas was founded, like many towns in Bulgaria, by Greek colonists. The first settlers of the area in the second century were Thracians, who gave the original name to the settlement and the region of Larisa. Only in the XV century the settlement received its modern name in honor of the god Veles and the Christian saint Vlasius, who patronized trade, cattle breeding and healing. Several medieval monasteries are still preserved in the vicinity of the town.

Till the 20s of the last century the settlement was predominantly inhabited by Greeks. Then Greek families moved to Western Thrace, which became part of Greece. Now the main population of the town are Bulgarians.
