Abu Dhabi launches cleanliness drive in beaches and neighbourhoods

Abu Dhabi has launched a cleanliness drive in public beaches and neighbourhoods and the municipality is seeking participation from residents for the campaign. 

On Thursday, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, in a post on X, encouraged residents to keep public beaches and community recreational facilities clean. 

The municipality earlier conducted beach inspections and neighbourhood hygiene awareness campaigns over five days at Al Corniche Beach, Al Bateen Beach, Al Alia Island, Al Halah Island, Al Bahia Beach, Al Shalila Beach, Al Ajban, Al Bahia, Bur Al Fayeh, Al Ramla Al Hamra, and near Al Wathba Park. 

The municipality said the campaign "enlightened beachgoers and residents in mainland areas about the importance of preserving the general aesthetics of these areas, and avoiding practices that mar the landscape or contribute to pollution". 

It raised awareness about the dangers of waste accumulation in public spaces, which can escalate into breeding grounds for pests, which disrupt the ecological balance of the areas. Cleanliness drive in Al Samha The municipality, meanwhile, conducted a neighbourhood cleaning drive in Al Samha. 

"Municipality employees worked diligently throughout the campaign to educate community members, emphasising the importance of preserving the environment and maintaining the general appearance of the area," it said on its website. 

The campaign aims to establish an "optimal healthy environment, preserve the overall appearance from various distortions, amplify social responsibility to contribute towards achieving these objectives, and to strengthen community commitment in elevating public cleanliness in residential neighborhoods". 

Led by the Al Shahama Municipality Centre, streets were cleaned and maintenance works carried out in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company over ten days. Waste was removed, trees trimmed, weeds were lopped off, and random plant growth curbed to preserve the looks of the area. 

Al Samha residents also received messages on the Freejna app on ways to maintain the general hygiene of the area.
