Stipa Gigantea commonly known as Golden Oats is a tufted, evergreen grass plant which has tall arching branches of linear green leaves which move freely in the wind. In the months of June and July the Stipa Gigantea will bloom tall erect stems of oat like feathery flowers which are a bright purple, changing with age to a gold colour.
Suiting a variety of locations, planting schemes and garden types makes this a good all round garden grass, being evergreen provides all year colour where planted.
Stipa Gigantea care
Plant the Stipa Gigantea in a sunny, warm area of the garden with moist, well drained soil. Generally disease and pest free and some pruning does make this garden grass a good plant for gardeners of all abilities. In spring, simply remove any dead or damaged foliage and the old flower stems to encourage a more healthy growth in the following seasons.
