About this object

This Steam Traction Engine, manufactured by Burrell in 1904, left England on July 13th 1904. It is one of 155 to come to New Zealand between 1886 and 1924. The Engine was shipped to Dunedin where it was sold to Vince O'Conner of
Riversdale. It last worked hauling gravel from the Mataura river near Gore
in the ownership of G Graves and was purchased by Hokonui Pioneer Village & Museum in 1977. The Engine came with a fitted winch and was restored by members of the Southland Steam Engine club in 1978.
