Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Wittnau Clay Pit, Merzhausen, Hexental, Freiburg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany
Class:
Combination
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5.9 × 4.2 × 3.6 cm
Description

The second and last of these very rare and astonishing pseudomorphs of limonite, partly replacing marcasite, which replaced a fossil sea-urchin. The sea-urchin is in very good condition, but the top partly covered by a nice marcasite crystal aggregate. The underside of the sea-urchin is completely visible with fossilized worm channels. Usually fossils from this Jurassic clay pit are crushed, so this a very positive exception.
