With ‘Tarzan’ on Disney+, You Can Now Stream Every Movie from the Disney Renaissance

Disney+ is the must have streaming service for every Disney fan. Where else can you watch the entire history of Disney’s animated output in one place, along with action-packed originals and informative docuseries—not to mention hundreds of other movies and TV episodes you loved as a kid? But when the platform launched last November, there was at least one major motion picture missing from the service: Tarzan.

Disney’s 1999 animated adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic adventure character pioneered the blended of traditional and computer-animated techniques and took the practice to new heights. But unlike the other films from Disney’s blockbuster stretch of ’90s hits, Tarzan was missing. Completists will be happy to know, though, that that’s no longer the case!

Is Tarzan on Disney+?

Yes! After months of waiting, you can now stream the 1999 Disney animated film on Disney+. Tarzan was initially omitted from the platform’s lineup due to preexisting streaming contracts, but those have since expired. Now you can hear the magical music of Phil Collins on Disney+.

Is Tarzan II on Disney+?

It is! The 2005 straight-to-DVD sequel was previously unavailable to stream on Disney+, but it was added to the service at the same time as Tarzan.

Are Disney’s Tarzan movies on Netflix?

They are not. You can now stream them on Disney+ and only on Disney+, presumably for the rest of time.

Are all of the Walt Disney Animation Studios films now available to stream on Disney+?

Tarzan’s omission was definitely glaring when Disney+ launched, but it wasn’t the only film in Disney’s numbered canon to be M.I.A. There are still two films in that lineup that you can’t stream on Disney+: Make Mine Music (1946) and Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018). Ralph Breaks the Internet is still streaming on Netflix, running out it’s contractually obligated time on that service; it will be added to Disney+ on December 11, 2020.

As for Make Mine Music, it’s not clear why the film is missing from Disney+ and it’s equally unclear when it will be added to the service—if ever. And just so we’re clear about one thing: Song of the South is not part of Disney’s numbered canon and also it will never be on Disney+.

But at least now with the addition of Tarzan, you can stream every Disney animated feature from 1947 to 2016.
