Decades Adds Rooftop Vibes to the Mix

The top floor just debuted at the dance club

Retro-inspired dance club Decades just opened its fourth floor — a huge rooftop that pays homage to the height of house music.

The airy ambiance aims to transport guests to beach side raves in Miami and Ibiza, with palm trees, sexy lighting and lounge furniture, a DJ booth, and greenery-covered privacy walls across the 2,500-square foot space.

The new rooftop bar’s lineup of seasonal cocktails will include coconut-and-mango jalapeño margaritas, strawberry basil lemonade, sangria, Mai Tais, and more. And just like club-goers did decades ago, excess spending is encouraged; there’s six exclusive VIP tables featuring bottle service.

The plan is to throw a weekly "Sunset Saturdays" party on the retractable roof, kicking off Saturday, April 29 at 5 p.m. A grill will whip up barbecue favorites like hamburgers, hot dogs, and kabobs.

Decades debuted last fall with three interior floors, dedicated and decorated to reflect the different musical eras from the ‘80s to the present.

On the first level, the CD-covered DJ booth and VIP “Pop Room” celebrates the 2000s, while the second floor is all about the '90s, decked out in arcade games and Rubik’s Cube furniture. The gold-themed third floor embraces the gilded age of hip-hop in the ‘80s, with an over-the-top "Bling Room.”

Cocktails conjure some serious deja vu, with Orange Crush cocktails, Jell-O shots, Goldschlager, and Hypnotiq on the menu.

Decades is nightlife guru Antonis Karagounis’ sixth area venue (others include Soundcheck and mega-concert venue Echostage). His deep house music connections came in handy to craft more than an average, old-school playlist; he tapped seasoned veteran DJ Enferno — who has toured with Madonna — to master the audio to reflect authentic club hits.

All four floors at Decades are now open, from Thursday through Saturday nights.

D.C. is upping its rooftop game as of late, with new spaces from The Watergate Hotel, Rosewood, The Ugly Mug, and more.
