Patriots Earn Tenth Win of the Season Behind Shutout Performance

Laurinburg, NC – The fifth-ranked UC women's lacrosse team had nine players record a point, while their defense continued to be one of the best in the NAIA as they defeated St. Andrews 19-0 Saturday afternoon.  The shutout was the Patriots seventh in program history as UC improves to 10-1 on the year, including a 4-0 mark in conference play.

Bella Ricchiazzi led the way with a five goal, five assists performance for the second straight game.  Reegan Hensley dished out four assists and scored twice, while Mia Rask and Morgan Tate each notched hattricks in the win.  Emma Rittman and Anna Lobbezoo each scored twice, while Rittman scooped 11 draw controls and added a pair of caused turnovers.  Marisa Helsten and Mia Rask finished with three caused turnovers, while Olivia McCarrell made one save in the win. 

Anna Lobbezoo won then opening draw control and UC needed just nine seconds for Mia Rask to net an unassisted goal to put UC in front.  Bella Ricchiazzi added a goal before connecting with Morgan Tate and Rask for goals to make it 4-0 with 9:26 remaining.  Reegan Hensley found Ricchiazzi for a goal before Bella returned the favor twice making it 7-0 with 4:55 remaining.  The two teams traded possessions over the closing minutes with neither team able to score as UC took a 7-0 lead. 

Cumberlands strong play continued into the second quarter as Koral Hadac won the draw control, while Helsten found Ricchiazzi for a goal to complete her hattrick. The Patriots continued to dominate the draw control, which resulted in goals from Lobbezoo and Aleyah Belton to give UC a 10-0 advantage.  UC had added three more goals, including two from Tate, while Hensely dished out a pair of assists to make it 13-0 at the break. 

The Patriots defense continued their strong effort holding the Knights without a shot in the second half, while added six goals for the 19-0 final.  Cumberlands added goals from Rittman and Ricchiazzi in the third quarter to take a 15-0 lead into the fourth.  Ricchiazzi added a goal to start the fourth quarter before Rask netted her third goal of the game for her second hattrick of the season.  Lobbezoo and Rittman netted the final two goals for UC as they earn double-digit wins for the sixth time in program history.

Cumberlands outshot St. Andrews 30-3 in the game and won 20 of the 22 draw controls. 

The Patriots will return to the field Wednesday, March 29, when they travel to Waleska, GA to face second-ranked Reinhardt.  The game is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
