Campanula persicifolia ‘Telham Beauty’

Classic cottage garden hardy perennial with spires of soft mauve-blue flowers

Established plants in 2 litre containers

Description

Campanula persicifolia ‘Telham Beauty’ is the archetypal cottage garden plant. Through spring it grows a rosette of lance-shaped, deep-green leaves before throwing up spikes that will eventually burst into flower as summer emerges. When the flowers do emerge they are a wonderful lavender-blue colour, with a papery, semi-translucent texture. The cup (or bell, hence its common name) shaped flowers gently nod in the breeze and spikes emerge throughout summer, providing a long season of interest. They make excellent cut flowers.
These established, garden-ready plants have been grown at our nursery in Cornwall and are supplied as garden-ready plants in 2 litre containers. They will grow to an ultimate height of about 1 metre (or 3 feet) in good soils and a spread of around half of that, at 50cm (1 and a half feet).

Growing Advice

Most garden Campanulas are versatile and rewarding flowers to grow. Campanula persicifolia is no exception. They grow well in partial-sun or full-sun locations, and need soil that doesn’t dry out too quickly nor that becomes waterlogged in winter. Because the flowers are borne on spikes they prefer sheltered locations, not too exposed to the wind, which makes them a great mid-border plant where they can be supported in and amongst other plants. In a mild winter they will remain evergreen.
