Summary[edit]

Description

A historic flowering event in the UC Botanical Garden at Berkeley. The last Puya raimondii to bloom here was a 28-year old plant in 1986; these plants rarely bloom in cultivation.

The flower spike looks very similar to how it looked about two weeks ago. My guess is the flowers are opening slowly, and they're still mostly closed. Anyone know better?

Getting a good close-up photo from the trail on the east side of the plant would require coming here in the morning...
