Introduction to the book of "The Flying Priest".

-> It was on April 20 after a mass since that Adelir Antônio de Carli at these days 41-year-old Roman Catholic priest started his trip, strapped to 1,000 helium-filled balloons and a chair in an attempt to break the 19-hour flight record and claim a new world record to raise money to fund and build a "spiritual" rest stop and worship center for lorry drivers in Paranagua, a major port city for agricultural products.

Adelir Antonio de Carl was an headstrong, anxious individual who was always in a rush. He was fighting restless against human rights violations for example in the case of Municipal Guard violence against beggars in Paranaguá which caused seven Municipal Guard agents and the municipal security secretary to be arrested.

Although equipped with a parachute, red helmet, aluminum thermal flight suit, waterproof coveralls, mobile phone, satellite phone, flotation device buoyant chair, parachute flotation equipment, at least five days of food and drinking water, and a GPS device, contact was lost with him late on this Sunday after he was blown inexorably off course toward the open sea. Realizing the wrong course of direction, he could have chosen his parachute to safe landing while over the countryside but chose not to.

His finally contact for help was a desperate attempt at an altitude of 6,000 metres (19,700 ft) to send out his coordinates, but rescuers were unable to determine his location since he could not use his GPS and communicate his position. The wind took him deep into the Atlantic Ocean. He struggled with the unit as the charge on the cellphone dwindled and died.
Later the state officials stated: „Instead of a GPS, the Priest let God be his guide.“

While Authorities Search crews reached clusters of yellow, orange, pink and white balloons two days after takeoff, floating intact in the Atlantic Ocean near the point where he last made contact with authorities on the ground off Brazil's southern Santa Catarina, the priest was not there.

The Penha (SC) Fire Department commander familiar with the situation put the missing priest's chances of still being alive at 80%. The Brazilian Navy called off the ocean search after scouring an areal of almost 5 thousand square meters on April 29, saying the chances of finding de Adelir Antônio de Carli alive in the ocean were "very remote". However, rescuers still hoped they can keep Father de Carli off the list by finding him alive floating in the ocean, resting on a beach or forest-covered mountain along the coast - but that was not to be the case.

Two month in uncertainty, it was on July 4, 2008 - a trist day for his followers, that the lower half of his body was found floating in the middle of the Atlantic by Anna Gabriela, a tug worker for Brazilian Petrobras oil company in an offshore oilrig support vessel on the sea, 683 miles (1,100 kilometers) from Father De Carli's starting point the port city of Paranagua. The oil rig is situated about 100 km from Macaé "Cidade do Petróleo" ("City of Petroleum“)in the state of Rio de Janeiro, 180 km northeast of the state capital, centre of the offshore petroleum industry in Brazil.

Puzzled by the found, the Petrobras official spokesman initially identified Adelir Antônio de Carli by the clothing. She said that "his clothes and shoes indicate that it's him." On July 29, 2008, DNA tests confirmed that it belonged to Adelir de Carli. The comparison was made with DNA samples from the priest's brother.

It was a unfortunate discovery, as the priest's death would make him an immediate contender for the annual international Darwin Award. The Catholic priests was denounced „Santa Ignorância“. According to the Darwin Award Jury the priests received vows of celibacy, as he voluntarily remove himself from the genepool. Therefore the entire group of priesthood would earns a mass Darwin Award. Adelir Antonio won twice! To underline this double-take Jonathan R Trappe, self-styled Aeronaut and Cluster Balloon Flight Expert, underling Father Carlis undertaking in the simple sentence, that “Cluster Balloon Flight can be affordably yours!"

10 years have passed since his heroic act of believing, to raise funds for the trucker community who make their living behind the steering wheel. Nevertheless, the „spiritual“ rest stop remained unbuild. His religious successor, rather then continuing Father Carli´s legacy, approached his tragedy to formalize the condition in favor of the churches institutional religious mission. The objective to house those truck drivers who work align the coastal city or Paranguá died with him and was somewhat replaced by a Catholic Church Design instead. Critical throughout his life about the institutionalization of the Church, his last wish remains subverted.

While Father Adelirs positioning system remains missing until today, a sensational found was made on the 12th December 2018, when BOFFO LADRONE a 38 year old brasilian ecology officer for the coastal restoration of Restinga National Park Jurubatiba, found a 19l water bottle container. The officer could´t believe his eyes, when he examined the object. Stored and protected from natures elements within the water storage container where Father Adelir´s post-mortem notes, which he wrote down after his last contact with the state officials was made. The collection - a bundle of smeared 30-40 pages, reveal and visionary experience, arguments, and suggestions of a hightened life journey to revisions and rethinking father adelir´s undertaking and living criticism to his opposition, in which he believed God contacted him directly.

The unimaginable discovery presents a grateful found of Father Adelirs handwritten notes and drawings, reflection on his passing life a priest, teacher, and political activist as repressed but existential factor in his life, to owe a debt of gratitude for humanity itself, to his family who have listened patiently to his ideas over the decades, and to all those whom have learned more about the problem of gods regress than his haunting reflexes can speak of.

What follows are Father Adelir´s handwritten notes on the institution of the church, god and humanity during his flight, as his sacrament on the horizon of his worldly experience.

stay tuned.
