Obergurgl-Hochgurgl is located in the Ötztal Valley, about 100 kilometers from Innsbruck. The nearest airports are Innsbruck Airport and Salzburg Airport. The resort is also accessible by train and car.


Obergurgl-Hochgurgl Terrain

Obergurgl-Hochgurgl has a total of 110 kilometers of pisted runs, with a vertical drop of 1,900 meters. The highest lift-served point is 3,082 meters above sea level. The resort has a good mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced terrain. There are also several off-piste areas, including the Tiefenbach Glacier.

Beginners

  • Hochgurgl : There are a good selection of beginner slopes around the Topexpress gondola area in Hochgurgl
  • Obergurgl: Is a beginner paradise with a variety of runs to try as you progress

Intermediates

  • Obergurgl Piste 1: This red slope offers a variety of terrain, from gentle to challenging, making it a good option for intermediate skiers of all abilities.
  • Obergurgl Piste 12: This red slope is a bit more challenging than Rote Piste 1, but it still offers a good mix of terrain for intermediate skiers. It can get a bit chewed up at the end of the day though.
  • Hochgurgl Piste 30: This is the pick of the reds in Hochgurgl. With no access to blue runs from the Top Schmerbahn 3000 it is often quieter than other parts of the resort.

Advanced

  • Hochgurgl Piste 34/35: A pair of steeps right in the centre of the ski area giving you a direct path to lift at the bottom while your mates bail out onto the blues around it.
  • Obergurgl Piste 13: This black slope is another challenging option for advanced skiers.
  • Obergurgl Skiroute 14: Moguls, sometimes icey.

Getting There:

  • By Air: The nearest airport to Obergurgl-Hochgurgl is Innsbruck Airport (INN), which is located approximately 90 minutes away by car. There are regular flights to Innsbruck from many major European cities. From Innsbruck Airport, you can take a taxi or transfer to the resort. Alternatively, you can take a bus to Ötztal-Bahnhof train station, and then transfer to the ski bus to Obergurgl-Hochgurgl.
  • By Train:  The nearest train station to Obergurgl-Hochgurgl is Ötztal-Bahnhof train station, which is located approximately 40 minutes away by car. There are regular trains to Ötztal-Bahnhof train station from major Austrian cities such as Innsbruck and Vienna. From Ötztal-Bahnhof train station, you can take a taxi or transfer to the resort. Alternatively, you can take the ski bus to Obergurgl-Hochgurgl.
  • By Car: Obergurgl-Hochgurgl is located about 100 kilometers from Innsbruck and 150 kilometers from Salzburg. The drive from Innsbruck takes about an hour and a half, and the drive from Salzburg takes about two hours. Take the A12 motorway and exit at Ötztal. From there, follow the signs to Obergurgl-Hochgurgl.

Villages:

  1. Obergurgl: Obergurgl is the larger and more popular of the two villages. It is located at an altitude of 1,930 metres and has a charming village atmosphere. Obergurgl is home to a variety of hotels, restaurants, and shops, as well as the main ski school.
  2. Hochgurgl: Hochgurgl is a smaller and more exclusive village. It is located at an altitude of 2,150 metres and is known for its luxury hotels and chalets. Hochgurgl is also home to a number of high-altitude restaurants, which offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
