Trigonella caerulea

Trigonella caerulea (L.) Seringe (E-Medit.?) – A rare and ephemeral, much decreasing alien. Recorded since 1882 in rather numerous, widely scattered localities, mostly as grain or wool alien (Verloove 2006). Since the 1950’s, however, only exceptionally seen, most recently in 2011 on the unloading quay for cereals at the Amerikadok in the Antwerp port area.
The origin of Trigonella caerulea is uncertain. However, it most probably was derived from T. procumbens (Besser) Reichenb. These two species are often hard to tell apart and are probably best accepted as two subspecies of a single, variable species.
