Val D’Orcia Tour

Val D’Orcia Tour

The Val d’Orcia, a region that has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 2004, does not need much introduction. This land is now known to all and you cannot leave Tuscany before having seen its villages and landscapes. Just to see the Val d’Orcia it would take at least two or three days.

In one day you will still be able to take a nice ride and you will have time to fall in love with these places.

Cypresses of San Quirico d’Orcia

The tour begins with the famous “Cypresses of San Quirico d’Orcia“, if you want to stop to take pictures it will not be easy as you will have to stop the car at the side of the road and venture on foot in the hill, it will be a splendid postcard that you will take with you at home…

San Quirico d’Orcia

The itinerary then continues towards San Quirico d’Orcia, a small village that maintains all the characteristics of the Tuscan countryside village with breathtaking views over the hills of the Val d’Orcia

Chapel of Vitaleta

The next stop on this tour is undoubtedly Pienza, but a few kilometers before reaching the town I recommend a small detour to the chapel of Vitaleta and the famous “Cypresses of Il Gladiatore“, where the scenes of the film were shot. These two points of interest are both located just before Pienza and to reach them you will have to take a stretch of dirt road.

Pienza

After this stop, which in my opinion is inevitable, you can finally reach Pienza, an architectural and artistic jewel of the Val d’Orcia, often the backdrop for film sets because of its beauty and resemblance to ancient villages.

Here you can stop for a typical lunch where you cannot get up from the table without first tasting the Pecorino DOP of Pienza, the pici and a bit of cured meats… all accompanied by an excellent glass of red wine (you will be spoiled for choice ).

Bagno Vignoni

After wandering through the streets of Pienza and photographing the panorama from its terrace, you will be ready to head towards Bagno Vignoni, an ancient Roman spa square that is still an unmissable stop for this tour today. Bagno Vignoni is really small but enough to make you fall in love with its brick houses built around this Roman thermal bath that fills the square. Behind the square of Bagno Vignoni it is also possible to reach the free natural baths.

Montepulciano

The last leg of the tour moves to Montepulciano, this would deserve even more time to be visited but if you are tight on time, you can take a tour of one or two hours, perhaps remaining to enjoy a sunset with a glass of Nobile di Montepulciano.

In short, there are so many places to visit and they all deserve some time to visit them. I hope I have shown you the best steps to make you fall in love with this land and I hope that you will be able to see everything without missing anything.

For more information and details we are always available and we will be happy to explain as much as possible.
